2021 Genesis G80, 2021 Fiat 500, 2022 Cadillac Lyriq: Car News Headlines

Genesis’ G80 mid-size sedan has been redesigned. The latest generation boasts a new platform, new powertrains, and a very alluring design, and it will be at dealers soon.

The Fiat 500 minicar has also been redesigned—as an EV. The new generation of the iconic hatch has grown in size, too, and overall looks a lot more polished than its predecessor. Unfortunately, it’s not clear yet if we’ll see it in the United States.

Cadillac in April will reveal its long-awaited electric crossover SUV based on General Motors’ new BEV3 dedicated EV platform. The SUV will be called the Lyriq, marking a return to real model names instead of the boring alphanumeric stuff Cadillac has been using for the past couple of decades.

You’ll find these stories and more in today’s car news, right here at Motor Authority.

The 2020 BMW 7-Series seeks attention

When the current-generation BMW 7-Series was released for the 2016 model year, it had a problem: It was largely invisible and people couldn’t distinguish it from its predecessor, according to BMW design boss Adrian van Hooydonk.

So few buyers noticed the 7-Series that in 2018 BMW sold just 8,271 units while Mercedes sold 14,978 S-Classes.

BMW’s solution? More grille and more tech.

The 2020 BMW 7-Series has been refreshed and it’s certainly no longer invisible. It now features all the latest technology expected in a flagship luxury liner, though with the price of a luxury liner. I spent a long weekend with BMW’s land yacht and it’s clear the German automaker fixed its problem while potentially creating a new one.

Can you see me now?

No one’s going to mistake the 2020 BMW 7-Series for anything but a BMW. The grille, now 40 percent larger,

True flagship sedan finally happening–and it will be electric

Talk of a true Cadillac flagship sedan dates back more than a decade. Now it’s finally happening.

During a presentation on Wednesday outlining its future EV strategy, General Motors revealed details about a new Cadillac model to be called the Celestiq and rolled out a concept to preview it. The concept featured a muscular front end and a curvy, almost shooting brake-like rear. Inside, it featured a screen that almost spanned the full width of the dash, a design trait that’s already appeared in the redesigned 2021 Escalade.

The production version will be a battery-electric car featuring the body of a large fastback sedan and a cabin that seats just four. Cadillac previously previewed such a model with the stunning Escala concept unveiled in 2016, but the design has evolved since then and the new concept should be revealed to the public in the not too distant future.

The 2020 Audi SQ8 packages performance and good looks for $89,995

Buyers in the market for an SUV that looks good, goes fast and packs plenty of luxury will do good to take a look at the SQ8, which is a new addition to the Audi lineup for 2020.

It’s priced from $89,995, including destination, and comes fully equipped as standard.

Based on the Q8 that arrived for 2019, the SQ8 dials up the fun thanks to a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that delivers 500 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, or enough for 0-60 mph acceleration in 4.3 seconds. Drive goes to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic and rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. For improved handling during spirited driving, Audi offers its Sport differential which can divert torque between the rear wheels.

You can get the same mechanical package in the more practical Q7 body for a starting price of $85,795. And outside the United States, an SQ8 TDI

Best Car Lease Deals This March Under $199

This Month’s Leases

2020 Chevrolet Trax

$179 per month/39 months — The Chevrolet Trax, though an acceptable choice overall, doesn’t offer anything unique compared to similarly priced small crossovers. It is easy to get into and generally affordable, and the tall ride height and large windows give drivers the expansive outward view preferred by SUV owners. Unfortunately, the benefits are outweighed by such drawbacks as an anemic engine, harsh ride quality and limited cargo capacity. A front-wheel-drive 2020 Trax LT is being advertised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and other areas for $179 a month with $3,739 due up front on a 39-month, 32,500-mile lease. The total cost, including a disposition fee of $395, comes to $11,115, or 34 cents a mile. See other lease deals in your area.
