The first model to debut will be the top-of-the-line Hummer EV3X, with production expected to start in late 2021 on the special Edition 1 launch version. Starting at a sobering $99,995, this variant boasts three electric motors, torque vectoring and a “Watts to Freedom” drive mode that whisks the Hummer EV to 60 mph in 3 seconds, which, for those scoring at home, makes it about seven times quicker than a Hummer H1. The Hummer EV3X also inherits some good stuff from lower-trim models, including an adaptive air suspension with Extract Mode (which raises the vehicle’s body by approximately 6 inches to get over the hump) and a novel “CrabWalk” four-wheel-steering system in case you’d like to drive diagonally — for example, through a tight spot on a rocky trail.

2021 Hyundai i20 N adds spice to the subcompact arena

Hyundai’s i20 subscompact hatch sold overseas was redesigned this year, with the new car bringing a sharper, almost premium look, loads of new tech in the cabin, and an available mild-hybrid powertrain.

Now it has spawned a sporty i20 N variant that was developed alongside Hyundai’s next World Rally Championship contender. There’s also a tamer i20 N Line that helps bridge the gap between the regular i20 and this i20 N.

Of course, the i20 N is the version you really want, though sadly none of the i20 variants are headed to the United States since the nameplate isn’t sold here. Elsewhere sales start in early 2021.

Petersen Automotive Museum Archivist Laura Fisher Preserves Car History

LOS ANGELES—The late Robert E. Petersen, born in East Los Angeles on Sept. 10, 1926, began his career in public relations as a messenger at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where he promptly transitioned into a publicist role. Long before he founded the Petersen Automotive Museum in L.A., Petersen throughout his adolescence worked on cars with the guidance of his father, who encouraged him to learn everything he could about working on them by cleaning parts. During his time at MGM, Petersen joined the Army Air Corps in World War II as a photographer, during which time he developed an affinity for automotive photography.

Upon returning from his military service, MGM fired Petersen and others. Having a principal role in forming the consulting firm Hollywood Publicity Associates with former MGM staffers, Petersen became heavily involved in hot-rodding.
